Counselling for children and parenting support

Your relationship with your child/children or young adult is important so, that's where the work begins.

Firstly, I would discuss with you and assess the best way forward for you and your child. There are one of two approaches that we could use and they are:

The first approach will involve a consultation with you and sometimes with your child depending on their age. Your child will then attend counselling sessions between 6/8 weeks or longer if necessary for about 45 minutes. Your child will receive a counselling service that is tailored to their emotional needs based on our initial discussions. You will receive verbal feedback after their 6/8 session and again at the end of the counselling process (if you want written feedback then there will be an additional fee).

The second approach you attend one-to-one parenting/counselling sessions. We would explore your concerns and use the parental relationship to create changes within your child. This will happen by gaining a better understanding of the reasons why and how the situation has come about. Together we will develop tools and new ways of interacting with your child which will improve your child’s happiness. The approach is most helpful for young children.

Below is what young people have said about their counselling experience...

‘’The things I found most helpful were finding methods of distraction, seeing my thoughts and feelings out on paper and using a barometer of emotions’’
(16 years, 2016)

'I would recommend this service as it is a safe place where you can relax, see things from a different perspective and learn ways of managing you feelings . (15 years 2017)

Also , a parent texted after a number of months after therapy had finished and wrote this ...

'Just thought I would let you know that my son is doing really well. He has mentioned you and the help you gave him and still talks about the techniques to his sister and uses them still himself. Thank you Alison for helping my son move into a better place'. (2016)

A parent shared this with me ....

'My overall experience of the parenting support has been positive as it has helped me be consistent with boundaries and provided me with impartial support where I could talk about my worries. I would recommend this service to my friends.' (July 2016)
